Bariatric Surgery Psychological Evaluations

Psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery are provided in the comfort of your own home by Dr. Nikki.

Bariatric evaluations are provided virtually to individuals who are 18 years and older, residing in New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and Florida.

A bariatric psychological evaluation, often known as a bariatric evaluation, is a comprehensive assessment to evaluate your psychological and emotional readiness for bariatric surgery. Most insurance companies require evaluations as bariatric surgery is often considered “elective.” Additionally, many surgeons require the evaluation to ensure optimal pre and post-surgical care.

Our evaluations are compassionate and thorough, aiming to understand your emotional well-being, mental health history, coping strategies, and readiness for the transformative journey of bariatric surgery. Our evaluations embrace a holistic approach, focusing on your psychological readiness, emotional resilience, and potential support needed to navigate the process of bariatric surgery and embrace positive lifestyle changes with care and understanding.

Evaluation process

All evaluations are thoughtfully conducted in the familiarity of your home environment. While you can complete some sections independently, certain parts involve live, video sessions to ensure a personalized and thorough assessment. Following the evaluation, you and your surgeon will receive a detailed report encompassing a holistic review of your mental well-being, highlighting any areas of focus and providing recommendations. A feedback session will be arranged, offering you the chance to engage, discuss outcomes, and ask any questions. The participation or completion of any recommendations is entirely in your hands. The decision to proceed with the surgery is at the discretion of your surgeon.
